ARTIST BIO
With a background in fashion and interior design, Carlos Antonio made his segue into the art world over the past decade, first in his own projects and then supporting other designers, leading to collaborations where he has curated the art and accessories for their projects.
As both an artist and curator, he incorporates organic elements with clean modern lines, evoking the fundamentals of the Bauhaus movement. Carlos’s aesthetic is refined contemporary with an appreciation for antique and vintage pieces creating his unique “contemporary with soul” aesthetic.
The galleries he partners with are an extension of Carlos’s fervent love of art, sculpture and objects where he can share the thoughtful and considered work of other artists and creators in addition to his own. Ultimately, Carlos’ intense personal connection to the art of creating has brought him full circle to where he now explores his personal sensibilities in the composition of his own work.
After years of experimenting with natural elements such as travertine powder, clay, marble powder and natural pigments, the DESIERTO/series was born . The series is an emulation of meditative quietness, that ascends from the desert terrain at different lights and times of the year. All the pigments and powders are applied by hand and left outdoors to cure, as they would exist in nature and further connecting his pieces to the raw materials from which they were formed. The DESIERTO/ series is now collected by noted figures in the art and design world.
His latest body of work, DESIERTO INGOT, is the sculptural descendant of Desierto, incorporating metal mesh elements to create organic forms that gently fade in and out of opacity, playing with texture, materiality, and form. It is the combination of natural and industrial materials that make each piece completely unique and creates endless opportunities for site specific and large-scale installations.
